Edenwood is home to several species of deer. Red deer, white- tailed deer, elk, and fallow spend their days in the many fields, wooded areas, and ponds about the ranch. The males grow big, majestic antlers that help them stand out and protect themselves against other male deer during the rut. But in the winter and spring, they lose their antlers at random throughout the ranch. This is referred to as shedding, and the lost antlers we call sheds. The shedding process does not hurt the deer and is a necessary part of their nature. They shed their antlers due to hormonal shifts, for safety and survival, and to conserve energy, because some of the antlers, especially a set of the massive elk or stag antlers, can weigh up to 30-40 pounds.
