Even before you start planning anything, our nation’s Independence Day is already an event worth looking forward to. That’s exactly why planning a 4th of July outdoor vacation WI-style retreat is a no-brainer. It won’t take much effort to turn it into the best weekend getaway ever. Our advice is to focus on four areas: the food, the lodging, the activities and, of course, the big bang!

Fantastic Food

A 4th of July retreat essentially calls for the mother of all picnics. This also means you get to dust off your favorite summer recipes and make enough to feed an army. The simplest and most popular way of organizing this with a large group is to have everyone plan their own breakfasts and lunches and then all come together for each day’s dinner.

Don’t forget to include:

  • Fresh fruits & veggies (Especially watermelon – if you get the seeded type, everyone can have a seed-spitting contest!)
  • Burgers
  • Brats
  • Pasta salad
  • Chips
  • Corn on the cob (Try a fresh twist on this old favorite with a Spicy Aioli drizzle)
  • Desserts for days!!

If you’re the organizer, consider starting up a Google Doc where each retreat attendee can share what he/she will be bringing to contribute to the meals. That way there’s very little chance of 5 different 7-layer salads showing up.

Lodging Our Forefathers Would’ve Loved

We realize that there’s a wide range of different ways to enjoy an outdoor vacation WI-style. Some folks like keeping things as rustic as possible while others prefer to lodge in luxury even when enjoying the great outdoors.

At Edenwood, we try to offer a little something for everyone. Our private ranch and preserve offers a total of 30 beds in five different themed cabins and two posh glamping tents. (We like to think that George Washington would’ve particularly enjoyed the All-American Lodge.)

Activities That Will Make History

Activities will vary depending on the ages of the people attending your retreat. However, many of our top crowd pleasers will appeal to anyone between the ages of 9-99. When you stay with us, you have access to the following:

  • Swimming
  • Fishing
  • Hiking
  • UTV Rentals
  • Ziplining
  • Stargazing
  • Bird watching
  • Much, much more!

It’s a nature retreat where the sky is the limit for adventure, fresh air and fun! We’re guessing that your group may vote to make it an annual event.

Firework Alternatives

Being that it is the 4th of July you will be celebrating, all your guests will be expecting something to “ooh” and “ahh” over. And, while traditional fireworks will never get old, we do like to offer some alternative suggestions in case anyone in your group is sensitive to noise or has military service-related PTSD.

If you’re looking for more of a festival feel to go with your celebration, there’s always the Waushara County Freedom Fest. Be sure to check on their Facebook page prior to making your plans for the most up-to-date information surrounding events and times.
